Baroness Falkner of Margravine

Chairman of EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee, House of Lords, United Kingdom

The Baroness Falkner of Margravine is the Chairman of the House of Lords European Union Sub-Committee on Financial Affairs and a Member of both the House of Lords EU Select Committee, and the Joint House of Commons – House of Lords Select Committee on the National Security Strategy.

The Baroness Falkner of Margravine chaired the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs (2000–15), and has served on the Constitution Committee, the Joint Committee on Human Rights, and several EU committees. She served on the Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Tackling Muslim Extremism established after the London bombings in July 2005.

The Baroness Falkner of Margravine was born and educated in Pakistan and later at the London School of Economics and University of Kent, where she gained degrees in International Relations and European Studies. Before entering the Parliament, Ms. Falkner worked in the corporate, public and voluntary sectors. She also served as the Chief Executive of Students Partnership Worldwide, an international charity focusing on the needs of young people in Africa and Asia. Ms. Falkner's previous roles have included working for the Commonwealth Secretariat, where she was responsible for good governance, democracy and political development in Commonwealth countries; and the Liberal Democrats, as the Director of Policy and International Affairs.
