Vilius Šapoka

Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania

On 13 December 2016, Mr. Vilius Šapoka was appointed as the Minister of Finance following the decision by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. The Minister of Finance represents Lithuania in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council of the EU (ECOFIN) and major international and regional institutions.

Prior to his current position, he worked as the Director of the Financial Services and Markets Department at the Central Bank of the Republic of Lithuania. He served as the Commissioner, Vice-Chairman and Chairman for the Lithuanian Securities Commission from 2006 to 2012.

Mr. Vilius Šapoka held various positions in the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania from 2002 to 2006, including the Senior Specialist, Chief Specialist and Deputy Unit Head of the Financial Market Policy Department. From 1999 to 2001, he worked as a Consultant, Analyst and Head of the Client Service Division for the Lithuanian Savings Bank.

Mr. Vilius Šapoka holds a Master’s degree of Economics in Banking from Vilnius University and an International Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Baltic Management Institute.
